okay, this is really simple mathematics and a whole llot of just plain common sense. Los Angeles observes Pacific Daylight Savings Time and New York obviously observes Eastern Daylight Savings Time. If it's a nonstop flight from JFK, the flight time is 6 hours. So if his original flight leaves at 7:00 a.m. and the flight time is 6 hours (0700 hr. + 0600 hr.) = 1300 hrs. These times are written using the 24 hours clock system which all airline and military personnels use. Therefore, his plane lands at 1300 hrs. New York Time which is 1:00 p.m. Los Angeles observes Pacific Time, they are 3 hours behind. That why the local time will be 10:00 a.m.

Your cousin definitely will NOT be flying on Lufthansa as they do not fly domestically in the U.S. As for the times, the ONLY thing I can think of that would have those departure and arrival times is changing planes somewhere with a HUGE layover.

There may be flight disruptions at airports around India due to strikes.

The government will try to keep Delhi Airport and Mumbai Airport operating normally at this time, but some flights may be delayed if they are coming from one of the other airports affected by the strike first.

Check with your airline on the status of your flight before you go to the airport.

Whether this person is proposing a scam or not is debatable -- it's entirely possible that this person does have the miles and desires to sell tickets he redeems using them. As has already been stated, most airline programs do allow you to redeem frequent flier miles for other people.

What has not been mentioned, though, is that selling your miles in this fashion is a violation of the terms and conditions of virtually all airline frequent flier programs. The seller faces a host of risks, including loss of elite benefits, miles, or their account altogether, but airlines have been known to deny boarding to people who have purchased tickets in this fashion. This means that the buyer, if caught with a purchased reward ticket, might not only be out the money paid to the person for this ticket, but would also have to buy a new ticket to their destination (or home, if they've already flown the outbound portion).

While I'd be worried about the potential for scam, I'd be even more worried that the airline would cancel the ticket -- their terms clearly state that they can unilaterally cancel award tickets that have been sold without any recourse to the buyer.

There's a possibility it's not a scam, people are allowed to use their frequent flyer miles to book flights under someone else's name. It's a way for someone to make money using their frequent flyer miles. They also can cancel your ticket after they've booked your ticket and taken your money, so I would be very careful, probably best to avoid them altogether. On the other hand, if they would allow you to give them a post dated check dated after you complete your travel or some other way to guarantee they're not ripping you off, it might be a good deal. Personally, I wouldn't do it though.
