It sounds like it might be legit. A person with lots of Air line miles that needs cash might sell their free miles. I would make sure you have the ticket before you give him cash though

Please don’t give money to strangers. If you think it is a scam, it probably is. Go with your gut feeling. Never ignore your gut feeling.

Probably. People don’t give away stuff like that.

If you’re looking for a deal on airfare go to a reputable site such as http://www.itravel2000.com, http://www.expedia.ca or http://www.travelocity.com.

I would check references and see if they have worked with others and get their feedback if it was worth it and if it worked.

There’s a possibility it’s not a scam, people are allowed to use their frequent flyer miles to book flights under someone else’s name. It’s a way for someone to make money using their frequent flyer miles. They also can cancel your ticket after they’ve booked your ticket and taken your money, so I would be very careful, probably best to avoid them altogether. On the other hand, if they would allow you to give them a post dated check dated after you complete your travel or some other way to guarantee they’re not ripping you off, it might be a good deal. Personally, I wouldn’t do it though.

do you really need to take advantage of other peoples points??

I would stay away. If I had hat many points, I would use them on myself, or my family.

Whether this person is proposing a scam or not is debatable — it’s entirely possible that this person does have the miles and desires to sell tickets he redeems using them. As has already been stated, most airline programs do allow you to redeem frequent flier miles for other people.

What has not been mentioned, though, is that selling your miles in this fashion is a violation of the terms and conditions of virtually all airline frequent flier programs. The seller faces a host of risks, including loss of elite benefits, miles, or their account altogether, but airlines have been known to deny boarding to people who have purchased tickets in this fashion. This means that the buyer, if caught with a purchased reward ticket, might not only be out the money paid to the person for this ticket, but would also have to buy a new ticket to their destination (or home, if they’ve already flown the outbound portion).

While I’d be worried about the potential for scam, I’d be even more worried that the airline would cancel the ticket — their terms clearly state that they can unilaterally cancel award tickets that have been sold without any recourse to the buyer.
